Pilates Reformer Leg Circles At iNLeT Fitness South
Have you tried the Pilates Reformers at iNLeT Fitness South with one of our personal trainers? Reformers are Pilates equipment that adds assistance and/or resistance to a common mat-based Pilates workout. It helps work on core strength, stability, mobility, and symmetry. It uses a spring system to add weight to the exercises performed. The more weight used, the more your extremities have to work, giving you an intense and effective workout. When using less or lighter springs, your core has to work harder. The “ropes” have straps attached to them, so one can perform a variety of arm work and leg work while still using the core for stability.
A very popular exercise is leg circles. The purpose is to strengthen abdominals, hamstrings, abductors, adductors, gluteus maximus, and deep hip external rotators. In addition, this exercise increases flexibility in those muscles while increasing pelvic stability. The spring tension will depend on whether the main intention is more for abdominal strength and pelvic stability (lighter springs) or leg strength and flexibility (heavier springs).
To perform this exercise, lay supine with feet on the foot bar. Your trainer will have you press off the foot bar and help place your feet in the straps. Engage your abdominals and keep a portion of your back off the mat to stabilize your pelvis. Start with straight legs towards the ceiling and inner thighs together. Lower the legs towards the bottom of the movement and then open them to circle them out and return to the start position. Perform 6-10 repetitions and reverse the direction. Our instructor can assist you if need be.
The Reformer Leg Circles have benefits for almost everybody. Whether you are new to exercise, injured, or an athlete looking to perform more efficiently, this exercise is beneficial to you. Your trainer can always modify the load and range of motion to make the circles the right fit for you. No matter your fitness goals, leg circles could be the missing piece to your regimen.
