    2. Increased metabolism: The thermic effect of food (TEF) is the amount of energy required to digest, absorb, and metabolize nutrients in food. Protein has a higher TEF compared to carbohydrates and fats, meaning your body burns more calories processing protein than it does processing other macronutrients.
    3. Preserving muscle mass: When you lose weight, you lose both fat and muscle mass. However, consuming enough protein can help preserve muscle mass, which is important for maintaining a healthy metabolism and preventing weight regain.
    4. Supporting exercise performance: Adequate protein intake is essential for building and repairing muscle tissue, which can help improve exercise performance and increase calorie burn during workouts at our Virginia Beach gym.
